How we check facts
If we can't check something at an official source, we say so and don't guess.
Where facts come from
State rules, fees, forms and addresses come from court, government and company pages. We read the page, save the wording and the date, and link it next to the fact.
What we do when we can't confirm something
State pages show "we couldn't check this rule" and send you to the court clerk. We don't publish popular statistics that we can't trace to a source.
How we keep it current
A nightly check reads our sources and looks for the wording we quoted. If it's gone, the fact goes to a review list for a person to read again. We update the page, or mark it if we can't confirm it. Each state page shows when it was checked.
Software and people
We use software to help with research and writing, and we link each fact to its source so you can check it. This is general information, not legal advice, and a lawyer hasn't reviewed every page.
Who we don't take money from
Nobody pays us to appear in a guide. We don't take referral fees from lawyers, insurers, finders or funeral homes.
