Terms of service
Last updated November 6, 2026.
1. Agreeing to these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and ז׳ואאו אשוטי, a sole trader trading as After Someone Dies. Using the service means you accept them.
2. Who can use it
You must be 18 or older and in the United States. The service covers the 50 states and Washington, DC.
3. What we do
We provide obituary drafts, general information, checklists, letter templates, a tracker and document storage. With the Search Service, we do the searches we can do without your identity, prepare letters for you to sign and send a written report.
4. What we don't do
- We aren't a law firm, and we don't give legal, tax or financial advice. Nothing here creates a lawyer-client relationship.
- We don't promise that a will, policy or money exists, or that a claim will succeed.
- We can't sign for you, represent you, act as executor or file in court.
- We aren't an insurer or an unclaimed property finder, and we take no share of what you recover.
Rules change and vary by court. Check important deadlines with the court or a lawyer.
5. Obituary drafts
Drafts are generated by software from your answers. They can contain mistakes. You're responsible for checking names, dates and facts before you publish them.
6. Your account
Keep your email secure, because it's how you sign in. You're responsible for what happens in your account. Give true information, and act only for a person you have a real reason to act for.
7. People you add
When you invite people, they can see the search, including its papers and letters. Invite only people you trust with them. You can remove them at any time.
8. Prices and payment
Prices are in U.S. dollars and shown before you pay. Each purchase covers one person who died and doesn't renew. Stripe processes payments, and we're the seller. Sales tax may apply.
9. Refunds
- Search Kit. A full refund within 30 days of purchase, for any reason.
- Search Service. A full refund until we start work. Once work has started, we'll refund the part we haven't done.
- Gifts. The buyer can get a full refund until the gift is opened. After that, the Search Kit rule applies, and the recipient decides.
Write to hello@aftersomeonedies.app. Refunds go back to the original payment method. If we refund, paid features for that search end.
10. The Search Service
You authorize our team to read and work in that search for the purpose of the service. Access is logged. We may ask you to contact an office yourself when it needs your identity or signature. Some replies take months, and we may close the case when the steps are finished and we've sent the report.
11. Your content
You own what you add. You give us permission to store and process it only to run the service for you. Make sure you're allowed to upload what you upload.
12. Automated help with messages
We use software to sort messages and suggest replies. A person reads and edits every reply.
13. Fair use
Don't use the service to harass anyone, to look up someone you have no real reason to search for, to commit fraud or to break the law. Don't try to break our security or scrape the site in a way that harms it.
14. Changes and closing
We may change the service or these terms. If a change matters, we'll tell you first. You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend accounts that break these terms. If we close the service, we'll give you notice and time to download your data.
15. Liability
The service is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, including money you might have recovered, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some states don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
16. Law and disputes
U.S. law and the law of the state where you live apply. Please write to us first so we can try to fix it. You keep any rights your state gives you that can't be waived.
