Write an obituary for your mother

We're sorry. Here are a few things that help, and an example you can borrow from.

What helps

  • Say what she did with her days, and what she made or fixed or grew.
  • Name children in the order your family prefers. Ask brothers and sisters to read it before it goes out, because this is where hurt feelings usually start.
  • A married name and an earlier name both help old friends recognize her. AARP suggests leaving maiden names out because of identity theft, so decide what matters more to your family.

An example

Rosa Delgado, 79, of Albuquerque, died on May 4. She raised four children on a school cook's pay and fed half the neighborhood too. If you ate at her table, you left with a foil package.

She is survived by her children, Tomás, Lupe, Ana and Marco, and nine grandchildren. A rosary will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at San Felipe Church.

This person is made up. Their details are only an example.
